The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) launched “Light up Macao 2022” on Friday which will run until January 1, according to an MGTO statement on that day.

The statement noted that the festival is being held in 28 locations across eight districts, which comprise the Northern District, Central District, Praia do Manduco District, Nam Van District, Zona Nova de Aterros do Porto Exterior (NAPE), Taipa, Cotai District and Coloane.

The event, according to the statement, integrates “tourism+” to bring together public art and innovative technology. Moreover, there will be a variety of installations, games, projection mapping shows and themed light decorations.

Macau’s six integrated casino-hotel-mall resorts, the statement said, are first-time event partners and have set up light installations at their facilities. The light shows are also projected on some of their properties’ façades in Macau and Cotai.

Meanwhile, the statement added that teams from Macau, Shanghai, Hengqin and Portugal are presenting mapping shows. The local team chosen through a call for public submissions is presenting “Creative City and Charming Town”, which is projected on the China Products Company’s façade in Largo do Pagode do Bazar.

The team from Shanghai is presenting “Frozen Bloom” at the Macau Science Centre, while The Livelihood Affairs Bureau of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin is showing “Tale of Interurban” in Largo dos Bombeiros in Taipa.

Moreover, “The Starting Point of Integration” by the team from Portugal is presenting its show at the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier in Coloane. The statement pointed out that as the Portuguese team is unable to come to Macau due to the COVID-19 pandemic, its production has been passed online to the local event co-ordinator that provides equipment and technical assistance for projection mapping.

The four shows take place from 7 p.m.-10 p.m., with the last show starting at 9:50 p.m. each night.
