MGM had recently arranged a study tour of its art collections and special exhibitions on intangible heritage for 160 teachers and students from Hong Kong’s St. Paul’s School (Lam Tim), according to a Wednesday statement from the integrated resort (IR) operator.
The statement noted that the study tour, entitled “Study Tour on Intangible Cultural Heritage”, was organised by IN INDUSTRY LTD, an organisation fully supported by the Academy of Chinese Studies of the Our Hong Kong Foundation, also the publisher of a magazine titled “公民+” that focuses on the “Citizenship and Social Development” curriculum at Hong Kong’s secondary schools.
The statement said that MGM’s Arts and Culture staff introduced the company’s aspirations on arts and culture, particularly its endeavours and innovations in preserving intangible heritage, as well as presented previous events such as the integrated resort operator’s “Ancient Costumes Exhibition” and the “MGM Lion Dance Festival”.
Docents also guided students in touring MGM COTAI and its public artworks, according to the statement, and visited its “Fondant Art Exhibition”, which features dough sculptures showcasing Guangzhou cultures and folk customs. The group also visited the Ruins of St. Paul’s and Na Tcha Temple to experience Macau’s East-meets-West culture.
“公民+” founder Voi Tong was quoted in the statement as saying: ”Considering that the nation has emphasised the development of cultural tourism, as well as Macau’s position as “One Centre, One Platform and One Base”, we designed this distinctive educational tour merging art, technology and entertainment, so that students could better experience MGM’s innovations in preserving traditional Chinese cultures, while realising the significance of art and culture in propelling the hotel and tourism development.”
