The police have received many reports recently about locals receiving phone calls from “Papua New Guinea”, or with that country’s international direct dialling (IDD) code of “+675”, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement yesterday.

The statement urged the public to be wary of phone calls with the code “00” or “+”, since the suspects in previous phone scams in Macau managed to alter the display of a number with malicious software. The statement also asked the public not to reveal any personal information to any unknown phone caller.

Several readers told the The Macau Post Daily yesterday that they had recently received suspicious calls from countries such as Togo and South Sudan, apart from Papua New Guinea.
