The Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) said in a statement on Friday that it recently won the “APQN [Asia-Pacific Quality Network]– Best Practice of QA [Quality Assurance] during [the] COVID Pandemic” at the APQN 2022 session, which was held in Singapore.
According to the statement, MPU is the only tertiary education institution in Macau to win the award.
The statement noted that APQN is the “largest and most influential international organisation” in the higher education quality assurance field in the Asia-Pacific region, with its member organisations being higher education accreditation agencies, colleges and universities. There are a total of 253 institutions and entities in 45 countries and regions, the statement said.
The statement noted that the award is “an endorsement” of the university’s endeavours and achievements in teaching quality assurance and academic research during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that MPU has set up a functional working group and guidelines in response to the challenges brought about by the pandemic.
The university arranged online, offline and mixed teaching methods in line with the COVID-19 pandemic prevention requirements, while other measures were implemented to ensure that teaching is conducted in an orderly manner, the statement noted.
Learning support, according to the statement, was also enhanced while the university has also hosted international academic conferences on higher education, with teaching quality assurance during the pandemic as the theme for three consecutive years.
The statement added that this allowed for “exchange opportunities” for scholars and experts from tertiary education institutions worldwide to share teaching research experiences and practices.
Many of MPU’s degree programmes, the statement noted, have been reviewed by authoritative academic accreditation agencies from different countries and places, adding that MPU is the first university in Macau to pass the UK Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) institutional accreditation.
This year, the university also passed the QAA’s international quality recognition and institutional accreditation for the second time.
