A 47-year-old jobless man was arrested on Thursday for repeatedly beating his underage son since May to vent his anger over quarrels with his wife, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a regular press conference on Friday.

Chan said that the local suspect, surnamed Pun, who often argued with his wife over financial matters, lives with his spouse, daughter and son in the mainland, adding that the two children had recently begun to attend school in Macau.

According to Chan, the Judiciary Police received a referral from the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre’s paediatrics department on December 9 on suspicion of domestic violence against a underage boy, resulting in multiple bruises on his body.

Chan noted that on July 7, Pun’s wife, who put the two children to bed and then went to a friend’s home, had still not returned home by 11 p.m. when Pun took his son to his room and beat him with a coat hanger, during which Pun telephoned his wife, telling her to come home at once.

Pan’s wife, who heard the boy crying during the call, returned home that night, and moved out of the flat with the children the next day, according to Chan, who added that she took her son to the public hospital for treatment last Friday, and reported the case to the police through the hospital.

She told the police that Pun had slapped his son in May while he was drunk and lashed out at him several times on later occasions.

Pun was arrested on Thursday when he reentered Macau from the mainland, and admitted to committing the crime.

According to a medical examination, Chan noted, the victim suffered injuries to his hands, arms, thighs and calves.

Pun has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where he faces a domestic violence charge.

Man hits wife, daughter with hose pliers: police

Meanwhile, a 64-year-old man was nabbed after hitting his wife’s head and daughter’s right eye with metal hose pliers on Wednesday, Chan said during a regular press conference on Friday.

Chan noted that the local suspect, surnamed Lai, lives with his wife and daughter in the northern district.

According to Chan, while his wife was showering early Wednesday morning, Lai suddenly turned on all the electrical appliances in the flat, resulting in a power outage. Chan added that the victim then rushed out of the bathroom to scold Lai, who ignored her and returned to their bedroom.

Chan said that due to the continuous scolding, Lai took out a 40-centimetre-long pair of hose pliers from a box and “waved” it around, injuring his wife’s head. Chan added that during the “waving”, Lai’s daughter stepped forward to stop him when she was hit in the right eye with the hose pliers.

Lai admitted to committing the crime, according to Chan, who added that Lai has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office, facing charges of causing bodily harm to his wife and daughter and possession of a prohibited weapon.
