The “Albergue Wishing Well 2023 & Love Trees” event opens to the public today and runs through March 18, supporting World Cancer Day and Caritas Macau, Albergue SCM said in a statement yesterday.

Echoing World Cancer Day, which is held on February 4 each year, the statement noted that the event aims to “promote love and the message of cherishing life”, as well as to wish for an early end of the COVID-19 pandemic and welcome the new year.

The statement said that one can make a wish and put donations into the wishing well or donation box, as well as pick up a yellow heart-shaped wishing card to write New Year wishes and hang the card on the marriage tree in the Patio of Albergue SCM.

The courtyard is located at Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro. Admission is free.

Albergue is Portuguese for “hospice”. SCM stands for Santa Casa da Misericórdia (“Holy House of Mercy”), Macau’s oldest charitable organisation.
