The government should strengthen its support for the insurance industry as the city’s market is still too small and the local economy is heavily dependent on gambling, Macau Insurers’ Association (MIA) President Jiang Yidao said yesterday on the sidelines of a press conference at the Financial Services Bureau (DSF).
Jiang announced during the press conference that the 28th East Asian Insurance Congress (EAIC), to be hosted by the 28th EAIC Organising Committee set up by Jiang’s association, will be held at the Venetian in Cotai from October 11-15.
The congress is held annually in different cities in East Asia.
“Macau heavily depends on the gaming industry now...” Jiang said. “We hope the government can strengthen its support for the financial sector, including the insurance industry in Macau.”
