Dulwich International High School Zhuhai invited local media on Wednesday to its campus, pointing out that it is the only international high school in the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and that it is ready to provide a new option for quality international education for Macau students.
Founded in 2010, Dulwich Zhuhai traces its roots to Dulwich College, the first British independent school to take its practice and ethos to mainland China in 2003, according to a statement by the school given to the visiting journalists from Macau.
Currently, nearly 300 students are enrolled in the school, 60 percent of them from both Zhuhai and Macau, including18 students from Macau, according to the statement.
The campus is located in the north-western part of Hengqin Island, about 15 minutes from Hengqin Port (Hengqin-Macau border checkpoint), the statement noted.
The campus occupies an area of nearly 20,000 square metres and includes a main school building, four outdoor sports fields, an indoor gymnasium and two student halls for up to 600 students, according to the statement.
Dulwich International High School Zhuhai (Dulwich Zhuhai) was co-founded by Education in Motion (EiM) and Zhuhai Huafa Education Development Co. Ltd in 2010, offering “authentic” British international education to students aged 14 to 18, the statement underlined.
The three-to-four-year Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) curriculum covers the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and A-Level (AS and A2), according to the statement.
The curriculum covers a wide range of academic subjects, allowing students to choose, among others, from Mathematics, Science, Economics and Commerce, Humanities, Computer Science, Drama, Music, and Arts, the statement said.
English is the school’s language of instruction, while Chinese language lessons are mandatory.
Macau and Hong Kong students who study in the International Department of their schools, as well as those taking international programmes or courses, can “smoothly” transition to IGCSE or A-Level and study the subject courses that match their personal interests and advantages, after passing the school’s admissions assessment, the statement emphasised.
Dulwich International High School Zhuhai Director Matthew Conn said in a press briefing during the visit: “We believe that every student is unique”, adding that the school’s approach to education aims to understand the talent, personality and needs of each and every student, and provide them with a wide range of curricular and extracurricular experiences and opportunities to uncover their individual potential.
“Our university counselling team provides personalised guidance to support our students in their university applications and career development that suits them the best,” Conn said.
Dulwich College was founded in 1619 in Dulwich, south London, under the original name The College of God’s Gift.
A staff member said that the school also accepts nonboarding students.
