A residential flat on Rotunda do Almirante Costa Cabral caught fire yesterday afternoon, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a message to the media yesterday
Leng said that at around 12 p.m. yesterday, a resident reported a fire on the balcony of a unit in the neighbouring building.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and by putting a hosepipe through the staircase window near the unit put out the fire. For fear that the blaze could re-ignite, the firefighters forced open the iron and wooden doors of the unit to check the situation, Leng said.
Upon investigation, the two-bedroom unit was filled with debris and dust, and it was estimated that no one had lived there for many years. No source of fire or incendiary material was found at the site of the incident, according to Leng.
Greenfield on fire
In addition, the Judiciary Police were notified on Wednesday night by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) that a greenfield was on fire near the Barrier Gate Plaza.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly extinguished the fire, Leng said. The fire affected an area of about four metres by 10 metres, according to a separate message by Leng.
According to an on-site investigation, the incident occurred in the open space outside the fence near the lamppost No. 173D02 at the Barrier Gate Plaza, burning debris and weeds at the scene. The cause of the fire was still under investigation, according to Leng.
No one was injured in either case.
The Judiciary Police have classified the two cases as suspected arson, Leng said.
