The Macau International Airport (MIA) continues to “calmly” overcome its challenges, difficulties and obstacles, based on the “all-out” support from both the Central People’s Government and the local government, as well as the guidance from the corporate management and all the concern and guidance from the media, Ma Iao Hang, chairman of airport operator CAM, said yesterday.

Ma made the upbeat remarks during the Macau International Airport Company Limited’s (CAM) 2023 Media Spring Luncheon at MGM COTAI.

Ma underlined that the local air transport industry was “among the hardest hit by the [novel] coronavirus pandemic in 2022.” However, he was quick to add that “CAM upholds the concept of win-win cooperation and is working through all the difficulties together with the airlines and airport operators.”

He also said that “despite the fact the CAM is facing operating losses, CAM continues to support and offer relief measure to airlines and airport operators, so as to incentivise them to maintain their passenger services… and to alleviate their operating pressure caused by the epidemic.” Ma, a veteran business community leader, said that CAM’s incentives and relief measures amounted to around 130 million patacas between 2020 and last year.

Ma also underlined that the State Council approved last October the airport’s expansion project involving land reclamation. He also said that the airport was “ready for future development” and “looking forward to the full resumption of the aviation industry with a new appearance and international-level service in the post-epidemic era.”

CAM Executive Committee Chairman Deng Jun and other senior staff members of the company also attended the luncheon.
