Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP) Deputy Director Ng Wai Han announced yesterday that six different types of e-cards issued by seven institutions and government entities – the Housing Bureau (IH), Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), Professional Committee of Accountants (CPC), Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), City University of Macau (CityU) and the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) – are now available on the Macao One Account, aiming to facilitate the public use of the account in daily life and further expand e-cards’ professional fields.

Ng made the remarks during a press conference at the Public Administration Building on Rua do Campo.

The six newly added types of e-cards under two categories – general use and professional – comprise student ID cards or campus cards, membership cards of the “Learning Platform for Parents”, Macau Archives reader cards, real-estate broker licences, accounting and tax services login cards, and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificates, according to Ng.

Ng pointed out that more than 30,000 students from the three tertiary-education institutions will benefit from the integration of their student cards with the Macao One Account system’s “My cards” function.

Meanwhile, according to Ng, apart from e-cards, Macao One Account holders can now apply for activities held by the Macau Science Centre (MSC) in Nape, such as science popularisation interest classes and astronomy popularisation events, through their respective accounts.

In addition, Ng said, the “Macao One Account” has launched the bill payment services of telecom operators CTM and China Telecom (Macau), adding that the Macao One Account has now “basically” covered the major payment items that are inevitable in daily life, “making it easy for the public to pay”.

Ng noted that 460,000 people have opened their Macao One Account, which offers 190 services and functions, adding that since the launch of the “My cards” function in the Macao One Account in 2021, a total of 164,000 account holders have uploaded their cards to the account, accumulating 511,000 e-cards.

Meanwhile, Ng pointed out that the government was developing technology to integrate local residents’ identity data into their respective Macao One Account, in the process of which, her bureau was studying with different government entities to broaden the scope of using ID cards in “various scenarios”, including customs clearance and medical vouchers.

Technically, based on preliminary studies, Ng said, it is possible to integrate the new ID-card service into the Macao One Account within this year, but the exact time would depend on the law and the coordination of “hardware and software infrastructure”.

Ng underlined that electronic identification data is different to the e-ID card. She also stressed that physical ID cards will still be issued even after the service is added to the Macao One Account.
