The theatre play for babies “Sounds of WOODerland” will make its premiere at Box I of the Macao Cultural Centre (CCM), with its six-day run from August 5 to 10.

Promising something that engages babies’ senses through “playful exploration”, the around 45-minute play will be held as part of the “3rd Macao International Children’s Arts Festival (MICAF)”, according to a statement from the bureau yesterday, and will mark the fourth work under the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s (IC) “Commissioning Performing Arts Productions 2024-2026”.

The play follows up on the success of “Sweet Dreams in the Woods”, which debuted in 2023 and was aimed at babies aged four to 15 months, along with their parents.

The upcoming new show, this time for those aged between eight and eighteen months, was created by local producer Chan Si Kei, who also produced “Sweet Dreams in the Woods”, composer and percussionist Yukie Lai, musical director Jean Bermes from Luxembourg, and Austrian choreographer Ela Baumann, the statement said.

It will feature original percussion, improvisation, handcrafted instruments and “sound installations”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the statement said, the bureau is also inviting representatives from stage production companies, theatres and arts festivals related to children’s performing arts from the Chinese mainland and neighbouring regions for its “Local Programme Presentation Session”, which is slated for August 8 at CCM.

The statement said that registration is open to performing arts-related associations, companies registered in Macau, or Macau ID holders aged 18 or above, with each presentation limited to five minutes, the statement said.

The statement said that the event, held mainly in Putonghua, aims to “promote original works by Macau’s performing arts sector and explore collaboration opportunities”.

One can visit www.icm.gov.mo for more details and to download the registration form, which can be done until August 3.
