The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement yesterday that it will organise 20 dog and cat adoption seminars in conjunction with the Macau Association for Stray Dogs and Animal Welfare (MASDAW), and residents can register online to join from today.

The seminars will introduce the bureau’s adoption services, information on dogs and cats for adoption, basic medical care and legal knowledge of adopting pets, in order to promote the idea of adopting dogs and cats instead of buying them, as well as the core concept of being a responsible pet owner.

According to the statement, the seminars will also include a visit to the Macau Municipal Kennel on Avenida de Almirante Lacerda, where participants can interact with the dogs and cats up for adoption, providing a platform for parents and children to learn about the value of pets’ lives. These events are free of charge.

According to the statement, there will be two seminars held each month, namely March 18, April 29, May 27, June 24, July 29, August 26, September 23, October 28, November 25 and December 16, from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. respectively, for a total of 20 sessions.

The bureau said it was committed to improving the welfare of stray animals by providing proper medical treatment and care for the animals it takes in, and advocating the trap-neuter-adopt (TNA) model.

In collaboration with animal protection organisations, there will be volunteers conducting home visits to adoption applicants in order to match them with suitable animals, according to the statement.

Interested members of the public can register now by scanning the QR code, and those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
