The Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) said in a statement yesterday that a civil servant of the Sports Bureau (ID) had cheated the bureau out of around 4,000 patacas by submitting forged receipts with overstated amounts of supplies that he had purchased for the bureau.

The male suspect was tasked with the bureau’s procurement of goods.

According to the statement, CCAC officials had launched an investigation after receiving complaints about the suspect, whose surname was not revealed.

The findings of the CCAC investigation showed that on many occasions the suspect had violated the bureau’s internal procurement regulations by purchasing goods and supplies from mainland online shopping platforms, according to the statement.

The investigation’s findings also showed that the suspect had submitted several forged receipts showing items that he had not bought at all or indicated inflated prices, according to the statement, which said that by doing so the suspect had defrauded the bureau out of a total of around 4,000 patacas.

The statement did not say when the suspect carried out his fraudulent activities with the aim of claiming exaggerated expenses

The statement also said that the case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further investigation, where the suspect faces fraud and document forgery charges.
