Sands 10K kicks off on Sunday

The 2023 Sands China Macao International 10K will kick-off on Sunday, with details and information revealed during a pre-event press conference held by the organising committee yesterday, according to a statement from the Sports Bureau (ID).

The statement noted that the start area’s closing time for the fun run is at 6:50 a.m., while the starting pistol will be fired at 7 a.m. Meanwhile, for the 10k race, the start area closing time will be at 7:10 a.m., with the starting pistol fired at 7:30 a.m. The start line will be in Sai Van Lake Square. The race routes, as well as the traffic arrangements, can be found on the official website at www.macao10k.com.

Moreover, a time limit of 1 hour and 15 minutes is set for the Fun Run, while 1 hour and 40 minutes is set for the 10K. Those unable to finish within the time limit must leave the race course, the statement underlined.

The statement said that participants can store their personal belongings at a storage area in Sai Van Lake Square between 5:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. They can be collected by presenting their bib at the Olympics Sports Centre – Aquatic Centre between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Participants were urged in the statement to arrive early to deposit their items.

The ‘Sands 10K Presents: The FUNkiest Costume Award’ is again being held where participants can upload a photo wearing a costume showcasing the city’s “diverse cultural characteristics” with their number bib on the app between 9 a.m. on March 18 and 9 a.m. on March 19.

An interactive zone for the race is also set up at the Venetian Macao’s Lion Square between 12 noon and 8 p.m. until March 19, while the ‘Sands 10K Presents: Long-Distance Running Quiz Game’ is also available on WeChat until the same day.

The statement urged participants to read the regulations and understand the race route carefully. They are also urged to monitor their physical condition during the race and seek medical attention immediately from on-site staff if they experience any physical discomfort.

Supply stations will also be set up along the course to provide participants with water and “energy-boosting food”. Only those provided by the service stations can be consumed to ensure participants’ safety and can lead to disqualification if they do not comply.
