Kenyans Edwin Soi and Winrose Chepkorir won first place in the 10K race’s men and women’s categories at yesterday’s 2023 Sands China Macao International 10K, where they also set new race records, the Sports Bureau (ID) said in a statement.

The men and women’s race winners’ prize money for the 10K’s general classification is US$10,000 each, while those who break the official course record can win US$15,000 – which was the case yesterday.

The statement noted that Soi, ahead of compatriots Mathew Samperu and Joseph Ngare, set a new race record of 29 minutes and 16 seconds, while Chepkorir, ahead of compatriot Lucy Ndambuki and Hungary’s Zsofia Kovacs, set a record of 34 minutes and 22 seconds. The races set off from Sai Van Lake Square and had around 10,000 participants, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, in the Macau men and women’s athlete categories for the 10K race, Wong Chin Wa and Hoi Long won the races at 33 minutes 59 seconds and 38 minutes 22 seconds respectively, the statement said, adding that both have broken the event’s Macau record.

Moreover, the winners of the “Sands 10K Presents: The FUNKiest Costume Award” were also awarded prizes at the end of the races.

Those who completed the race within the time limit can visit
