The SJM Macao Open competition is slated to take place from October 12-15 at the Macau Golf and Country Club for “one of the most prestigious tournaments” on the Asian Tour, which will be its 20th edition, according to a statement from the organisers.
The 2017 tournament in Macau, the last one held locally, was won by India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar, according to the statement.
The statement noted that SJM is the title sponsor for the next three editions of the event and is supported by the Sports Bureau (ID) and the Macao Golf Association.
SJM, the statement noted, has been “pivotal to reviving this celebrated event”, while its support also ensures that “one of the most popular stops on the Asian Tour will return bigger and better than ever for its 20th edition”. This year’s 144-player field will compete for US$1million.
The Macau Golf and Country Club, which is known as one the “most beautiful courses to play in Asia”, has hosted each edition of the event, the statement added.

Asian Tour CEO and Commissioner Cho Minn Thant was quoted by the statement as saying they are “delighted” to welcome back the event to its schedule. “Historically it has been a very popular event amongst our players and I know this will be very welcome news for all.”
Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun was also quoted as saying: “‘Sport for All’ is a very important government initiative and the health benefits of golf are undeniable so we hope that the return of the SJM Macao Open to the island will serve as inspiration to our residents and be enjoyed by all.”
