The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has set up an integrated zone – “Cape Star” – located between the Leisure Area of Kun Iam Statue Waterfront and the Macau Science Centre in Nape, with multiple functions and attractions, such as children’s play facilities, leisure and sport, food and beverage, arts and culture, as well as science popularisation, IAM Administration Committee member Isabel Celeste Jorge said yesterday during a press conference at the Macau Science Centre about the zone.

According to Celeste Jorge, the Kun Iam Statue Waterfront Park Leisure Area has logged 800,000 people-times since its opening in 2021.

Philip Kuok Fei Lek, who heads the bureau’s division of greening, said during the press conference that the integrated zone has been equipped with specially designed food and beverage kiosks, an open-air café, and large-scale outdoor installations for the public to take photos.

Kuok said that the project was also aiming to provide more performance platforms for art and cultural performers, while also enhancing the area’s artistic and cultural atmosphere, adding that a busking venue has been set up by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) in the integrated zone.

A bumper car track for children is now available in the Kun Iam Statue Waterfront Park Leisure Area for kids aged between three and 12, according to Kuok, who stressed that those aged between three and six must be accompanied by an adult when using the facilities.

The bumper car track is open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, with each session lasting five minutes.

According to the press conference, the Municipal Affairs Bureau, in conjunction with the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin Planning and Construction Bureau and the Macau Science Centre, will launch a raft of activities, such as parent-child workshops and exhibitions between tomorrow and April 23 in the integrated zone, focusing on ecological conservation and scientific knowledge.

The press conference noted that those interested in participating in the activities can sign up through their Macao One Account in advance.
