Local art organisation Comuna de Pedra (“Stone Community”) said in a recent statement that they had performed “the never-ending task of lust for failure” on February 25 and 26 at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, adding that the inclusion-themed performances received enthusiastic responses.
Comuna de Pedra, which was founded in 1996, continues to be focused on dance theatre productions, on stage and site-specific, apart from promoting art education in Macau. The organisation also curates and produces art projects such as exhibitions, festivals and cross-cultural collaborative programmes.
The statement added that the group frequently incorporates a variety of elements in its performances to showcase the diversity of the performing arts. These elements include contact improvisation, collaborative creation, the use of installations, videos, and other media in their works. In addition, the group incorporates music, live performances, bands, masks, and large-scale puppets to further enhance their performances.
According to the statement, “ the never-ending task of lust for failure” premiered at the “Macau Arts Festival 2021” and was staged at “Todos Fest! 2022.” The statement said that the performance in Hong Kong featured an ensemble of neurodivergent performers from Macau and Switzerland, during which the performers express their thoughts and practice inclusive art to the audiences.
According to Wiktionary, neurodivergent refers to having an atypical neurological configuration.
Performer Lam Wing Yan said in the statement that the audience in Hong Kong was very engaged in the group’s improvised performances and danced with them, while an audience member noted that during the performance the performers with different abilities shared the heavy topics of life and death and humorous asides on daily life, and they continuously inspired charm and magical moments by breaking boundaries and stereotypes.
