Public Security Police (PSP) officers busted an illegal inn on Rua de Coimbra in Taipa last Monday, where they arrested five men and a woman, aged between 31 and 41, from the mainland who were all in Macau illegally, PSP spokesman Leong Chi Seng said during a regular press conference on Friday.

According to Leong, the three male suspects, surnamed Yu, Shen, and Xiong, who had been barred from entering Macau between 2021 and last year, claimed that they entered the city illegally last month for casino gambling. The other two male suspects, both surnamed Li, and the female suspect surnamed Han have been overstaying in Macau since November 2021 and September last year respectively.

Leong said that the Public Security Police received a report from a resident earlier last month that someone was running an illegal inn in a three-bedroom flat in a residential building on Rua de Coimbra in Taipa, adding that based on the report PSP officers were dispatched to the scene in the afternoon of March 27, where they arrested the sextet, among whom Han and Yu are married.

During the operation, Leong said, the officers seized a forged arrival card and a fake Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) travel permit from Shen, and another four bogus arrival cards from Yu and Han.

Under questioning, the couple admitted that they had rented a bed near a casino for HK$2,000 per month through an “unknown” man, while three of the quartet claimed that they each had rented a bed for HK$1,000 to HK$1,500 per month through the couple’s introduction. The other one claimed that he rented a bed from an “unknown” woman for a monthly rent of HK$1,500, according to Leong.

Leong said that the jobless sextet have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of aiding illegal immigrants, overstaying, document forgery charges and illegal entry.

Meanwhile, according to Leong, as the identity information provided by the 33-year-old Li this time did not match the police records, he also faces a false identity declaration charge.

The Public Security Police are continuing their investigation into the whereabouts of a mainland woman who rented out the flat, as well as the “unknown” man and woman who rented out the beds, Leong said.
