Cyclist, motorbike rider hurt in crash

A motorcycle crashed with a bicycle near the private Kiang Wu Hospital yesterday, causing the motorbike rider to be seriously injured, while the cyclist was only slightly hurt, the authorities announced.

According to statements from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) and the Public Security Police (PSP), the accident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. at the junction of Rua da Erva and Rua de Entre-Campos, a neighbourhood near Kiang Wu Hospital.

The cyclist, a 44-year-old Filipino, who is a non-resident worker (NRW), sustained minor abrasions to his left hand. He declined to be taken to hospital for further medical examination after receiving basic treatment from paramedics, the CB statement said.

The motorbike rider, a 49-year-old local man, sustained abrasions to his forehead and left cheek, as well as lacerations to his tongue. He was rushed to the nearby Kiang Wu Hospital for emergency treatment. There were no updates about his condition as of last night.

The police have launched an investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
