The Judiciary Police (PJ) received a report from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) on Monday at 7:30 a.m. that a local woman had committed suicide by hanging herself in the stairwell of a residential building where she lived on Rua do Almirante Costa Cabral, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement.
The deceased was a 44-year-old local woman surnamed Cheong.
According to the statement, Cheong’s mother discovered that Cheong was not in her room and, after a search, she saw that Cheong had used a white electrical cord to hang herself from the fire hose in the stairwell.
According to the statement, PJ officers noticed marks on Cheong’s neck, and confirmed that the marks matched the electrical cord that she had used to hang herself.
A suicide note was found in the victim’s drawer, the statement said, adding that Cheong had had suffered a terminal illness.
The statement said that a post-mortem examination will be performed.
