The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that there are two additional performances of the paper puppet theatre Paperbelle, a programme of the 33rd Macao Arts Festival (MAF), slated for May 13 and May 14 at 5 p.m.

Tickets are available through the Macau Ticketing Network outlets, as well as telephone and online booking from 10 a.m. today.

According to the statement, the 33rd MAF is slated to be held from April 28 through May 28, with tickets for some of its programmes being “highly sought after” since the first day of ticket sales. The additional performances for Paperbelle were added as a result.

The statement noted that Paperbelle was created in the UK and has been staged across the world and toured around the mainland in over 100 performances. Frozen Charlotte Productions and The A.S.K. will present a “minimalist yet highly imaginative play” and transform a small theatre into a “cardboard house”, the statement said.

Other programmes featured in the festival for families include “The Ocean” by DKS Shanghai and “On This Side of Macao – The Quest for Verónica” by local video artist Bernardo Amorim, the statement noted.

The statement added that the Dóci Papiaçám di Macau (“Macau’s sweet chatter”) group, which marks its 30th anniversary this year, will conclude the festival with the Patuá theatre play “Carnavaland”, and inaugurate the “Doci Papiaçám di Macau - 30 Years of Multiculturalism on Stage: A Photographic Exhibition”.

Patuá is Macau’s highly endangered Portuguese-Asian Creole spoken by just a few dozen people locally and a few hundred among the diaspora.

Moreover, Dream Theatre Association Resident Director Cheong Kin I has constructed the quasi-documentary play “The Dress Looks Nice on You”, which the statement said is based on interviews with “psychotic individuals to explore their unusual perceptual world”.
