A female motorcycle rider died on Saturday after her motorbike was hit by a concrete mixer lorry in an avenue on the peninsula’s north-eastern coast on Friday night, the authorities have announced.

According to statements from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) and the Public Security Police (PSP) on Friday and Saturday, the accident occurred at around 8 p.m. on Friday on Avenida da Ponte da Amizade, the avenue leading to the entrance and exit of the Macau-Taipa Friendship Bridge.

The motorcycle, which was travelling en route to Taipa, was about to enter Friendship Bridge from Avenida da Ponte da Amizade when it was hit by the concrete mixer lorry, which was changing lanes, the statements said.

Firemen and paramedics rushed to the scene where they were unable to detect the 50-year-old motorbike rider’s heartbeat, and she was not breathing.

The woman, who suffered head injuries and multiple fractures, was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment. However, a PSP statement on Saturday announced that she died in the hospital earlier that day after treatment to save her life had failed.

Saturday’s PSP statement said that after gathering evidence and scrutinising the area’s CCTV footage, the police transferred the concrete mixer lorry driver to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Saturday for further questioning and investigation.

The Public Security Police are urging witnesses to the accident to call their Traffic Department on 2837 4214.
