Macau's observatory has issued its "very cold weather" Orange alert, forecasting that the mercury will drop to 7 degrees Celsius in the next couple of days.

According to a statement by the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) this afternoon, "it is expected to be very cold in Macau continuously in the next couple of days. The minimum temperature will drop to 7 degrees Celsius or below. Since it will remain cloudy, rainy and windy for a few days, the chilly feeling will be more obvious and durable. The public should take precautions against the cold weather. Especially the elderly, children and persons with chronic illnesses are advised to put on more clothes to keep warm."

The weather station said that members of the public should note the following: 1. Take precautions against the cold weather. Wear more clothes and keep indoors warm. 2. The very cold weather could easily trigger hypothermia, respiratory or cardiovascular diseases, especially among the elderly, children, pregnant women, and person with chronic illnesses. 3) Use heaters with care and maintain indoor ventilation. 4) Consult the social welfare services if necessary."

Macau has a two-level cold weather alert system. While Yellow warns the public of "cold" weather, Orange indicates "very cold" weather.
