BNU Chief Executive Carlos Álvares addresses yesterday’s ceremony marking the reopening of its revamped main branch on Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro. The ceremony held in the main hall of the bank branch was attended by local and central government officials and business representatives. Álvares said that “the interior design concept is inspired by the iconic BNU caravel that represents the Portuguese adventurous spirit and a multicultural approach”. He also said that “in a digital era like the one we are living in, banks, like many organisations, also need to reinvent themselves.” The BNU chief stressed: “However, we are also aware of the inherent value of the traditional channels for more complex banking operations such as loan applications or discussing investment strategies and plans”, adding that “while we keep strongly investing in innovative and more comprehensive solutions to our digital channels, we are equally committed to improving our physical spaces. BNU, which has a history of over 120 years in Macau, is one of Macau’s two note-issuing banks, alongside Bank of China (BOC). It is fully owned by Portugal’s CGD bank.
