The two zebra crossings at the junction of Avenida 1º de Maio (勞動節大馬路) and Rua do Canal Novo (涌河新街) in the peninsula’s Areia Preta district will be replaced by traffic light-controlled crossings from tomorrow, with the aim of ensuring the safety of pedestrians, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) announced in a statement yesterday.
The two traffic light-controlled crossings will come into use tomorrow morning.
With the operations of the traffic lights at the junction, the statement said, the bureau will closely monitor the latest traffic situation there, before making possible adjustments to the signal timing, with the aim of “reasonably” allocating the duration of the passage of both vehicles and pedestrians.
