Hotel guests rise 199 pct to 1.1 million in April

Macau’s 129 hotels and inns recorded 1.1 million guests last month, a year-on-year growth of 199.0 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.

Guests from the mainland (739,000), Hong Kong (254,000) and Taiwan (18,000) leapt by 202.2 percent, 1,171.4 percent and 407.3 percent respectively.

However, staycationers (45,000) dropped by 52.8 percent.

Guests’ average length of stay was nearly unchanged at 1.6 nights.

Guestrooms’ average occupancy rate in April rose by 50.0 percentage points to 79.8 percent. The rates of 3-star and 2-star hotels reached 86.1 percent and 85.9 percent respectively.

The total number of available guestrooms rose by 10.6 percent to 43,000.

In the first four months of the year, the number of guests soared 118.4 percent to 3.8 million.
