The second edition of a magazine in Portuguese focusing on Chinese culture was launched at the Rui Cunha Foundation on Avenida da Praia Grande yesterday.
Via do Meio (“Middle Way”) is a quarterly magazine published by Livros do Meio, a publishing house in Macau that is dedicated to introducing works about China in the Portuguese language.
The magazine features translations or reviews of Chinese classic literature, poems, and paintings by scholars in Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs) such as Portugal and Brazil.
Carlos Morais José, founder of the publishing house who is also editor-in-chief of the magazine, said at yesterday’s launch ceremony that the magazine aims to help the public in PSCs better understand Chinese culture.
“China boasts a complicated, profound, and diversified ancient civilization, to which Via do Meio provides an excellent access,” said Morais José, who was born in Lisbon and moved to Macau in 1990. He also published the Hoje Macau (“Today Macau”) daily.
The magazine targets readers working in local education institutions and readers in PSCs and beyond.
Starting in September, the magazine is scheduled to be published in Portugal as well.
