Health Bureau (SSM) Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Director Lam Chong said yesterday that even if more people are being diagnosed with HIV in the next few years, he was not worried about their treatment since the bureau was ready for the challenge.

Lam made the remarks on the sidelines of an event about an AIDS education funding scheme organised by the government’s AIDS Prevention and Control Commission, which aims to encourage local community groups to organise AIDS education activities by providing them with financial and technical support.

According to Lam, 29 patients, 21 of whom are locals, were diagnosed with HIV from January to September this year, adding that most of the new cases were the result of sexual transmission.
