A 38-year-old local man committed suicide by burning charcoal at his home in Taipa yesterday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said in a statement.
According to the statement, the Judiciary Police were notified about a dead-body-found case from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) at about 5:25 p.m. yesterday stating that the victim, who lived in a flat in a building on Rua do Regedor, was found lying motionless on his bed by his mother at about 5 p.m., with a black steel pot containing burnt charcoal ashes on the bedroom floor.
The statement noted that CB paramedics at the scene confirmed that the victim had died some time before their arrival.
The police did not suspect foul play in the victim’s death, the statement said, adding that the exact cause of death had yet to be confirmed by a forensic examination.
