Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said in a statement that the police received a report from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) at 5:40 p.m. yesterday that an umbrella in the carpark of a residential building in Patane had been set alight.

According to the statement, a resident found the burnt umbrella frame at around 3:40 p.m. and reported the incident to the building manager. Police officers who arrived at the scene intercepted a man who admitted to setting fire to the umbrella with a cigarette lighter.

The statement did not elaborate on why the man burned the umbrella.

Police officers found a cigarette lighter at the scene, and a drainage pipe next to the umbrella was also blackened. The manager told the police that the estimated damage was 3,500 patacas in total.

No injuries were caused in the incident.
