A taxi driver has been arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and blocking traffic by sleeping in a private car parked in the middle of the road, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The 31-year-old local suspect is surnamed Leong.
According to Wong, a resident reported to the Public Security Police (PSP) at about 10 a.m. on Sunday that a car was parked in the middle of Rua Nova da Areia Preta, blocking the traffic.
Wong said that PSP officers arrived at the scene and discovered that Leong, reeking of alcohol, was fast asleep in the driver’s seat, while the engine of the vehicle was still running.
A breathalyser test showed that Leong’s alcohol concentration was 1.33 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.
Leong claimed that he had drunk alcohol at 5 a.m. that morning. Later, a family member, whose gender was not revealed by the spokesman, drove him to Areia Preta and asked him to park the car as he or she had to go somewhere else. Leong fell asleep when looking in vain for a space to park.
Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of drunk-driving, according to Wong.
