Works by Taiwanese contemporary artist Chen Wei Ting are being exhibited at Lisboeta Macau’s H853 Fun Factory in a solo exhibition titled “Will See You Again”.

Presented by the Humarish Club in conjunction with both “Naomi Studio” and “Pat Culture and Art”, the works on display feature Chen’s “significant paintings”, poems and sculptures that he has created in recent years, according to a recent Humarish Club statement.

For his works, Chen used lots of childhood memories and “symbolic figures” such as teddy bears, antique toys, intuitive graffiti drawings, and costumed characters, the statement noted.

The statement said that his paintings started as “diary recordings”, with the writing being more like an interpretation of his work. He also writes about fragments of his childhood.

The title of the exhibition shows a view of the artist’s “inner world”, with characters in his world featuring bear, “candle dog”, goat, apple, flower, balloon, Sun and Moon. These creatures point to the core value of life, “Growth and Degradation”, with each character going “all out to pursue their own meaning of life”.

Chen experienced the loss of his grandfather and two mentors last year, the statement said, noting that he “gradually adjusted his state of mind during the creation process”. The contents of his work are also a farewell to “certain phases of life”, based on the understanding that all the changes of the world are unpredictable.

The three poems that Chen composed for the exhibition are also a “commemoration of possible losses and recovery, or a moment of recollection”, aiming to raise the point that “goodbye isn’t about farewell, but expectations”, the statement added.

Chen has held exhibitions overseas such as in New York and Dubai, and is the recipient of several prizes, according to the statement.

The exhibition runs until August 20. The gallery is open daily from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Admission is free. For more details, visit https://www.humarish.com
