Macau’s 130 hotels recorded 1.1 million guests last month, a year-on-year growth of 140.3 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
Guests from the Chinese mainland (793,000), Hong Kong (199,000) and Taiwan (17,000) grew by 133.0 percent, 818.3 percent and 357.9 percent respectively, while local staycationers (42,000) dropped by 51.8 percent.
Mainlanders, Taiwanese and Hongkongers accounted for 91.4 percent of the total number of guests in May.
Guests’ average length of stay rose by 0.1 night year on year to 1.6 nights.
At the end of May, the total number of available guestrooms stood at 43,000, a year-on-year growth 10.0 percent. Guestrooms’ average occupancy rate increased by 44.6 percentage points to 78.9 percent.
In the first five months of the year, the hotel sector recorded 4.9 million guests, up by 122.8 percent year on year.
