The Macau International Airport (MIA) Check-In Centre on the ground-floor at the Macau border checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) will officially start operating late next month, with the “Express Link” bus service also set to resume at that time, according to a statement by the local airport company CAM yesterday

The statement noted that upon completing the check-in procedures at the centre, those travelling via the HZMB can directly take the Express Link bus service to MIA’s “restricted area”.

The statement said that this aims to meet the growing demand for travel, noting that the local airport’s passenger movement exceeded 1.95 million in the first half of the year, while the average daily passenger volume so far this month has reached 16,000.

The statement added that as the local tourism industry gradually recovers, the airport passenger movement is steadily increasing with a recovery of over 40 percent of pre-pandemic 2019.

The centre aims to attract passengers to travel to different regions through the local airport via the HZMB, “improving passenger convenience and better integrate the needs of the development of the Greater Bay Area [GBA]”, according to the statement.

Moreover, Express Link services at multiple land and sea border checkpoints will also gradually resume operations, the statement said, while the local airport’s “Service Centres” in Jiangmen and Zhongshan are also scheduled to resume operations in the fourth quarter, which would provide “a more convenient, efficient, and comfortable travel experience for passengers” in the GBA.
