The Macao Orchestra (OM) and the Macao Chinese Orchestra (OCHM) each held their season-closing concerts on Sunday and Saturday respectively at the Grand Auditorium of the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM).

The Macao Orchestra’s concert on Sunday, titled “Ode to Beethoven”, was under the baton of its Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Lio Kuok Man. The performance featured Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, with Czech violinist Josef Špaček, Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández, and Lio himself on the piano. The concert reached its climax with the renowned Beethoven Symphony No.9, performed by the orchestra alongside the Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus and four Japanese vocalists – Noriko Tanetani, Shoko Toya, Tatsuya Takahashi, and Daisuke Ohyama. The event was a grand spectacle, boasting more than 100 musicians on stage.

During the announcement of the orchestra’s new season on Sunday, Lio revealed that the concert had sold out a week prior, underscoring the robust support of the local music community.

Saturday’s closing concert of the Macao Chinese Orchestra, titled “Three Kingdoms and Dreams of the Red Chamber” was conducted by its Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Advisor Yeh Tsung. The concert began with adaptations of music and songs from the TV drama series “Dream of the Red Chamber”, based on the novel by Cao Xueqin. Mainland Chinese soprano Wu Bixa delivered the lyrics while Wong Pak Hou narrated the story. The second half of the concert featured the symphonic poem “The Battle of Red Cliff” from the historical novel “Three Kingdoms” by Luo Guanzhong. Wong continued his role as narrator, while the lyrics were sung by tenor Liu Naiqi.
