Two local men have been separately arrested for drunk driving, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Wong identified the suspect in the first case as a 23-year-old local university student surnamed Nip.
According to Wong, the police received a report on Friday at 8 a.m. that two motorcycles had collided near Rotunda da Amizade in which one of the riders was injured. Police officers who arrived at the scene found the other rider, Nip, reeking of alcohol, and a breathalyser test showed that his alcohol concentration was 1.81 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.
Under questioning, Nip admitted to drinking in a bar earlier that morning in Toi San district.
Wong identified the suspect in the second drunk driving case as a 35-year-old local man surnamed Cheong. He told the police he’s a businessman.
According to Wong, police officers saw a car reversing against the flow of traffic near Fisherman’s Wharf on Sunday at 6 a.m. The officers immediately stopped the car and found that Cheong was reeking of alcohol. A breathalyser test detected his alcohol concentration as 1.52 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood. He admitted drinking earlier that day.
Cheong and Nip have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing drunk-driving charges, while Nip also faces a charge of causing bodily harm by negligence, Wong said.
