Construction of a logistics centre in Hengqin developed by Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited got off the ground yesterday when a groundbreaking ceremony was held there.

The logistics centre is scheduled to start operating in 2026.

Macau Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong, who heads the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and Zhuhai Mayor Huang Zhihao attended yesterday’s ceremony.

The ceremony was also attended by Nam Kwong executives as well as association representatives from Macau.

Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited is the only state-owned enterprise headquartered in Macau.

According to yesterday’s announcement by Nam Kwong, the site where the future logistics centre will be located covers about 43,000 square metres. The centre will have a gross floor area of 159,000 square metres.

According to the announcement, the logistics centre project is now expected to be topped out at the end of next year, after which the project is scheduled to be fully completed in 2026 when the centre can start operating.

The logistics centre will have various facilities such as a station for processing air cargo, an automated three-dimensional warehouse, a storage area for frozen goods, a room-temperature storage area, an automated food processing area, a non-automated food processing area, and office facilities, according to the announcement.

Nam Kwong said that the logistics centre aims to further ensure the mainland’s supply of daily necessities and other goods to Macau, in addition to promoting the development of cross-border e-commerce between Macau and Hengqin.
