The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) reminded tourists in a statement yesterday to pay attention to typhoon-related news through different channels, as well as to the precautions for visiting Macau during the typhoon season.
The statement noted that MGTO sends notifications ahead of the probable arrival of a typhoon to remind the travel industry to pay attention to the matter and urging it to prepare contingency plans. The notifications include information about the arrangements for bridges, ports and transport when typhoon signal number 8 or above is hoisted, the statement said, while MGTO notifies and requests tourism authorities in the mainland to inform travel agencies organising trips to Macau to make corresponding itinerary arrangements in Macau.
The statement added that MGTO communicates with Macau’s tourism sector representatives and provides them with its “Advice for travelling in Macau during typhoon season” infographic and promotional video.
Meanwhile, when Typhoon Signal No. 1 is hoisted, the statement said, MGTO’s Tourist Information Counters display constantly updated typhoon-related information, while the staff also provide reminders to visitors.

Moreover, once having been notified by the weather station about the hoisting of typhoon warning signals No. 3 or No. 8, the statement said that MGTO will immediately send information about the storm to registered residents travelling abroad and tourists in the city via SMS messages, as well as reminders to pay attention to land, air and sea traffic arrangements. MGTO also recommends visiting www.gcs.gov.mo for the latest information.
Typhoon season precautions are also posted on MGTO’s official social platforms. The statement noted that relevant information will also be posted on its official website when the city is affected by a typhoon, as well as on appropriate channels.
The statement said that MGTO will keep its 24-hour operator service of the Tourism Hotline (2833 3000) running even when typhoon signal No. 8 or above (No. 9 or No. 10) is hoisted, while Tourist Information counters are suspended. The Macau Grand Prix Museum and Ritz Building will also be temporarily closed when the No. 8 or higher typhoon warning signal has been hoisted.
