The first “Wynn Signature – Chinese Wine Competition” is set to take place from March to April next year, serving as a platform for wine industry professionals from the mainland to network and promote the future development of the nation’s wine industry, according to a statement by Wynn Resorts yesterday.

The statement quoted Eddie McDougall, chairman of and technical advisor to the “Wynn Signature – Chinese Wine Competition”, as saying: “The competition will establish a platform for advancing China’s wine industry by building greater networking opportunities and forging new collaborations, while also giving Chinese wine the global recognition it deserves, expanding markets and promoting cross-industry integration,” adding that the event offers opportunities for people from around the world to discover “the very best of Chinese wines”.

In an effort to further support the government’s “1+4” development strategy which is aimed at promoting four main industries – big health, modern finance, high-tech, and conventions and exhibitions, including culture and sport – for appropriate economic diversification and the long-term promotion of Macau’s non-gaming attractions, Wynn Resorts announced the establishment of its new brand – “Wynn Signature” during a launch ceremony on Wednesday at Wynn Palace in Cotai.

On the sidelines of the launchi ceremony, The Macau Post Daily interviewed Sichuan Wine and Fruit Wine Industry Association Secretary-General Zhou Jinsong and Cui Yanzhi, general manager and chief winemaker of Longus Vineyard in Qinhuangdao in Hebei province. Both said they expected the upcoming competition to further promote Chinese wines abroad, adding that after more than 20 years of development, Chinese wines have made “very rapid” progress, with their quality having improved “a lot”.

Zhou said that different to similar competitions held in the mainland, Macau provides a platform for overseas markets and the whole world, where the market for Chinese wines will not be limited to mainland customers only.

According to Wikipedia, the history of Chinese wine began in 1892, with the establishment of Changyu Pioneer Wine Company Incorporated in Yantai city in Shandong province by Chinese industrialist, politician and philanthropist Cheong Fatt Tze.

Meanwhile, the “Wynn Signature – 2023 Hypercar Exhibition” was also announced during Wednesday night’s ceremony, which will take place from October 1 (National Day) to the end of November, displaying 16 limited-edition hypercars at Wynn Palace in Cotai and Wynn Macau in Nape.
