The second edition of “The Crunch and Munch Fair – Fiesta for Five” will take place on Estrada do Istmo, informally known as Cotai Strip, between October 19 and 29, Wu Tat Chong, president of the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau ZAPE, said during a press conference yesterday at the Macau World Trade Centre on Avenida da Amizade.
“Fiesta” is the Spanish word for “party”.
A total of 107 booths will be set up at the event comprising food, cultural creations and performing arts.
According to Wu, the 11-day event, which is co-hosted by the association and the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), in conjunction with the city’s six gaming operators, is the first large-scale outdoor food festival integrated into the 28th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF), with the aim of taking advantage of the fair’s marketisation, specialisation and brand effect, in order to attract more diversified business elements on the basis of “tourism + food + culture” and promote the integration of culture, business and tourism.
Wu said that aside from 60 local exhibitors, the event will also include 20 exhibitors from four cities in the mainland that have also been awarded the title of “Creative Cities of Gastronomy” by UNESCO, namely Chengdu, Huai’an, Shunde and Yangzhou, and 10 craft beer exhibitors, six cultural and creative games exhibitors, and five exhibitors of Chinese and Portuguese-speaking countries’ products.
Wu noted that one of the highlights of the event this year is that there will be a series of performances including electronic music, DJs, street dancers and bands in the event’s beer area, so as to create a “young, fashionable and sophisticated” beer festival atmosphere.
Wu underlined that all exhibition fees will be waived and any business income the exhibitors earn during the event will be theirs, in order to relieve the financial burden that local SMEs are faced with.
