The One Central Macau estate and integrated resort (IR) MGM Macau launched the 6th Macau Lantern Festival on Friday, presenting lanterns designed by Alan Chan Yu Chien, at Lakeside Promenade of One Central Macau, which will be displayed until November 30. The public are free to view the installations.
The festival is held with the support of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), with the opening ceremony attended by Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.
Chan is a renowned Hong Kong designer and artist, presenting his work “Jade Rabbit in the Lotus Garden” for this year’s Macau Lantern Festival.
On the Waterfront Promenade of One Central Macau, there are eight luminous lantern art installations and three positioned within One Central Macau and MGM, namely “Fly High”, “Happy”, “Smartie”, “Bouncy”, “Sweetie”, “Lively”, “Shy”, and “Beauty”, representing the legendary tale of the “Jade Rabbit Flying to the Moon (嫦娥奔月)”, the playful depiction adding youthful vitality.
Meanwhile, according to Chan, the lotus flower represents hope and expectations for the future, echoing the image of Macau Tower, another iconic landmark in Macau.
According to One Central, MGM has long been dedicated to fostering art and culture within public spaces, curating projects that integrate art and culture into daily life, and through the partnership with MGM, the 6th Macau Lantern Festival extends art installations beyond hotel interiors to the expansive outdoor waterfront promenade.
