The Health Bureau (SSM) announced yesterday upgrades to its “Healthy Food Restaurant” programme, aiming to expand the number of healthy eating outlets in the community.

SSM Director Alvis Lo Iek Long said during a press conference yesterday that in response to changes in residents’ eating habits and in order to encourage more operators in the catering industry to participate in the scheme, in the wake of the earlier launch of the “Healthy Food Restaurant” programme, the bureau has cooperated with the local three major food delivery platforms in officially launching yesterday the programme’s version 2.0, jointly creating a healthy eating environment and promoting a culture of healthy eating, in conjunction with the catering sector.

According to Dr Lo, starting yesterday, residents are able to choose three types of “healthy eating” dishes, namely, “Fruit and Vegetable Selection”, “Whole Grain Selection” and “Salt, Sugar and Fat Reduced”, in the “Healthy Eating” column displayed on the three food delivery platform apps, enabling residents to develop a healthy eating habit when buying a takeaway.

Dr Lo noted that there are already 48 business operators participating in the upgrated scheme.

Participating merchants are required to hold a licence issued by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) or the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and provide, on a regular basis, at least five dishes that fulfil the bureau’s nutritional requirements covering three categories, namely, vegetables and fruit, whole grains or whole grain products, and less salt, sugar and fat, the press conference noted.

Yesterday’s press conference was held at the Public Health Emergency Personnel Accommodation Building on Estrada do Visconde de S. Januário.
