Local flag carrier Air Macau announced on Friday in a statement the launch of a new direct flight route connecting Macau and Jakarta starting on October 29, with four flights per week.

In the statement, Air Macau said that the introduction of the Macau-Jakarta route would be a significant step forward in Macau’s expansion of its global tourism market. The statement underlined the company’s dedication to supporting the local government’s objective of attracting more overseas visitors to Macau, with Indonesia being one of the prime targets. The statement added that Air Macau intends to further expand its overseas route network in the near future, with a strong focus on Southeast Asia.

According to the data published by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC), in the first half of the year, Indonesia ranked second in overseas visitor arrivals to Macau with 58,110 visitors (after the Philippines). Other Southeast Asian countries including Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore are also among Macau’s top ten tourist sources.
