The government yesterday announced that renting a flat in its high-rise residential building for senior citizens, which is being built in an area of Plot P in Areia Preta district, will cost between 5,410 and 6,680 patacas per month.
Property management fees will be included in the rental fee.
In general, permanent local residents aged 65 or over who are able to take care of themselves will be eligible to apply for a flat there.
The government announced the rental fees in an executive order by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.
Construction of the rental housing estate for seniors is now scheduled to be completed in January next year. The estate will have a total of 1,815 studio-style units clubhouse facilities, shops and other community facilities will be set up on the podium levels.
Applications to rent a flat there will start on November 6 when the government’s administration regulation (by-law) on the application, use, operation and management of its rental housing estate for senior citizens takes effect.

According to yesterday’s executive order, the monthly rent for flats between the 4th and 21st floor will range between 5,410 patacas, 5,730 patacas, 6,050 patacas and 6,370 patacas, depending on their location in the building, while the rent for flats between the 22nd and 37th floor will be 5,670 patacas, 6,010 patacas, 6,300 patacas and 6,680 patacas.
The assessments of the housing programme’s applications will be carried out based on a points-based system, according to which applicants will be ranked on a list according to scores calculated based on various factors and variables.
The government yesterday also announced details of its criteria for score calculations, in a separate executive order by Ao Ieong published in the Official Gazette.
Applications for a rental flat can be filed by one person or by two people living together. Individual applicants must be permanent local residents aged 65 or over who are able to take care of themselves.
If two seniors jointly apply to rent a flat, at least one of them must meet the same requirements as an individual applicant, in which case the other must be a permanent or non-permanent local resident aged 60 or over also capable of taking care of himself or herself.
