The Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has joined hands with Kao Yip Middle School to set up Macau’s first Base for Training Cooperation Model on IELTS (International English Language Testing System) International English Test, aiming to cultivate English talents in “an all-round way”, to further promote the development of students’ English learning and examination ability, and to enhance the high-quality development of English proficiency in Macau.
According to an MPU statement yesterday, the unveiling ceremony for the base took place on the Kao Yip Middle School campus in Nape last Thursday.
Kao Yip Secondary School Association President and School Board Chairman Kevin Ho King Lun, a local deputy to the National People’s Congress (NPC), was quoted in the statement as saying in a speech that as a global language of communication, students with a high level of English proficiency will enhance their competitiveness. Based on the extensive experience of the instructors of the MPU Bell Centre of English (MPU-Bell), Ho said he believed that through innovative teaching methods, students can take a step forward on the international English test platform in line with Macau’s positioning and development direction in the nation’s development, and thus nurture a new generation that can meet international standards.
MPU President Marcus Im Sio Kei said in a speech that in accordance with the government’s “1+4” development strategy (which aims for appropriate economic diversification by promoting four new key industries – big health, modern finance, high-tech, and conventions and exhibitions, including culture and sport, as well as the long-established tourism and leisure industry), the MPU continues to give full play to the advantages of its academic resources in expanding its certification services for both international and national examinations, offering various types of continuing education courses, and setting up different examination and certification centres in Macau.
