In response to public concern about traffic jams during the upcoming six-day Macau Grand Prix (MGP), Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun said yesterday that the organising committee will ensure smooth traffic flows around the Guia Circuit, which will be closed to normal traffic during the daylight races.

Pun insisted that “the reopening of the track to the public is getting faster and faster” thanks to the experience that the organising committee has accumulated over the years.

However, Pun was quick to add that he hopes the public could understand the Grand Prix measures and support Macau in hosting the “world-renowned event”.

The Grand Prix, which will take place this coming weekend and from next Thursday through Sunday, marks its 70th anniversary this year.

In terms of the sales of MGP tickets, Pun pointed out that 90 percent of the admission tickets for the last race day have already been sold, describing the ticket sales as “ideal”.

Pun reaffirmed that the 70th Macau Grand Prix is, “no doubt”, aimed at attracting more tourists to Macau and thus driving the city’s overall development, including the hotel and catering sectors.

Pun made the remarks during a press conference about several new collections of stamps at the Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) headquarters on Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro.

Meanwhile, CTT Director Derby Lau Wai Meng announced during the press conference that in commemorating the 70th MGP, the bureau will launch four different designs of envelopes, with two of them to be issued over the weekend on November 11-12, while the others will be issued on the following weekend of November 18-19. She added that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at the MGP ticket control area at Lisboa Bend Stand and the Philatelic Shop of the General Post Office (GPO) on Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (San Ma Lou) during the period to provide the commemorative postmark cancellation service.

In the press conference, Lau also announced the issue of other new philatelic products – “Centenary of the Founding of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau” and “Lunar Year of the Dragon”, as well as the “Thailand 2023 World Stamp Championship Exhibition” commemorative envelope, respectively, on November 23 this year, on January 5 next year, and on November 27 this year.
