A local woman has been arrested for not paying a taxi fare of 105 patacas, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said in a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect surnamed Chan is in her twenties. She works as a receptionist.

According to Lai, a cabbie reported to the police on October 27 that a female passenger had failed to pay her taxi fare of 105 patacas after a ride on August 20. On that day, upon reaching the destination, she claimed to have neither cash and nor electronic payment means. Instead, she asked the taxi driver to provide a payment QR code and promised to pay the fare later.

The cabbie trusted her, but as of October 27, he had not received the payment and decided to report the case to the police. Police identified the passenger as Chan and arrested her on the same day.

Under questioning, the suspect admitted to the offence, claiming that she had forgotten to make the transfer after she returned home that day.

Chan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of failing to pay a transport fare, according to Lai.
