On the second racing day of the 70th Macau Grand Prix (MGP) yesterday Hong Kong racer Darryl O’Young won the Greater Bay Area GT Cup (GT3), 0.92 seconds ahead of the mainland’s Ling Kang.
Chang Chien-Shang from Taipei finished in third place. A total of 13 drivers ended the eight-lap race, with O’Young, who started in pole position, having kept the lead the whole way.
O’Young, 43, told the media at a post-race press conference that “it is not easy for [drivers] to win the race [Greater Bay Area GT Cup], adding that for him “every win is special”, and that his team did well in preparation the race, which enabled him to win the race around the Guia Circuit.
O’Young said that the race was the first in which he competed this year, adding that as he had a good start thanks to his pole position, he was not under great pressure during the race. “The defining moment was the start, which was quite critical, and I was able to hold him [Ling] off even though he was quite alongside me on the turn one,” he said.
O’Young also said he expected to return to Macau next year to compete in its world-class races.
